JU Marine Science Bahamas

麻豆传媒社区 is proud to offer a Marine Science program on the island of San Salvador in the Bahamas. This field intensive program is designed to engage your intellect while you discover the ecosystems and underlying chemistry and geology of tropical marine habitats.
This 3 week program is specifically designed for undergraduate and graduate students working to complete Marine Science degree and field study requirements. Students will be developing skill in field observation, laboratory analysis, and experimental design as well as learning to conduct scientific studies in remote conditions. Students are immersed in rich and varied marine ecosystems and settings while living at a marine field station. The island of San Salvador is small with roughly 800 year round inhabitants. It is often referred to as the 鈥渇amily鈥 island and is itself a beautiful setting for a study abroad course. You will also be experiencing the culture and life on the island.
In addition to course readings and lectures, students will participate in daily field studies, including excursions to coral reef, mangrove, open ocean, and terrestrial cave systems all around the island. This is coupled with nightly work at the field station in laboratories. Housing is located at a University of the Bahamas Gerace Center field station where students will be in shared rooms with both undergraduate and graduate housing available. All meals are included and prepared at the field station by staff. This is a physically demanding and rewarding course.  Comfort with swimming is required and previous snorkeling experience is a plus. Students are encouraged to meet with faculty prior to applying.
